The Obama 2012 vote and religion

Gallup did a poll of religion in America, by state. I thought it would be interesting to chart that against Barack Obama’s 2012 vote share.

Here are the results.

I do think the grouping is just as I expected. The outlier above is DC, the outlier below is Wyoming.

Without taking the time to do math, since this isn’t a serious projection of any kind, what I take from this exercise is that non-Mormon Republicans in the west tend to be less religious than those in the east. States like Arizona, Wyoming, and Alaska fall below the trend we get from the rest of the country.
